2013 Ford Edge Augusta GA
Not just another midsize crossover SUV, the 2013 Ford Edge continues to plow through competitors in this very crowded segment. And in 2013, Ford gave the Edge some additional features that are sure to please. Expanding the Edge’s all-wheel-drive availability, this rig also gets a sport mode added to its six-speed automatic transmission, as well as the latest edition of Ford’s Sync system, complete with MyFord Touch voice-activated technology.
Powering the 2013 Edge crossover SUV is Ford’s 3.5-liter V6, which cranks out close to 300 horses and 253 lb.-ft. of torque, and is married to a six-speed automatic. Step it up to the Ford Edge Sport and get a 3.7-liter V6 that boils 305 horses and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine also pairs with a six-speed automatic, though this version is equipped with shift paddles. Finally, for all the environmentally friendly folk out there, Ford offers a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder (also mated to a six-speed automatic), which pounds out 240 horses and gets up to 30 mpg on the highway. And while we’re on the subject of gas mileage, the 3.5-liter gets 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway (a bit lower for AWD models); the 3.7-liter gets 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Front-wheel drive is standard on the Edge; all-wheel drive was an option.
Safety is vital for a rig that is most likely hauling around several family members—or very-important business clients!—so Ford equipped its 2013 model-year Edge with AdvanceTrac and roll stability; a plethora of air bags, including dualstage front airbags, side airbags and a front passenger sensor system; its Safety Canopy system, which is made up of side air-curtain technology, to protect first- and second-row passengers; hill-start assist; SOS post-crash alert system; blind-spot mirrors and MyKey programmable vehicle key. Ford’s Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), with cross-traffic alert, is available as a stand-alone option, as well.
Available in four trim levels, SE, SEL, Limited and Sport, the 2013 Ford Edge seats five and starts off the basics with 17 inchers, AC, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, trip computer, reclining rear seats and a six-speaker sound system. Ford offered a Convenience Package to tack on special exterior features, such as rear parking sensors, automatic headlights and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Also included in this set-up was an outside keypad entry, as well as a sub-floor cargo organizer. The next trim up, the SEL, equipped the Edge with bits like bigger wheels and an eight-way power driver’s seat, complete with power lumbar. The package that was available for this trim is the Leather Comfort Package, with leather upholstery (surprise!), heated front seats and a six-way power passenger’s seat, which folds flat. There was also an SEL Appearance Package, which added 20 inchers and a body-colored grille—just to name a few of the items. The Edge Limited and Edge Sport basically owns everything mentioned above, though the Sport version gets the bigger 3.7-liter engine, in addition to 22-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension and a premium Sony sound system. But Ford doesn’t stop there: Check out the Vision Package (which adds automatic wipers and BLIS) and Towing Package, which included trailer-sway control (for SEL and Limited models only). Stand-alones include a rearview camera and the MyFord Touch system, satellite radio and the Sync voice-command interface.
