2012 Ford Fiesta Augusta GA
Following on its successful debut as a 2011 model, the Ford Fiesta entered the 2012 model year with two new interior style packages, an expanded sport appearance package and the addition of an integrated blind spot side-view mirrors and driver’s seat armrest across the range. The new packages included two-tone leather-trimmed seats with harmonizing door trim inserts, color-coordinated steering wheel and instrument panel trim, premium carpet front floor mats with the Fiesta logo, and a leather-wrapped gearshift knob. These packages were available on the top-of-the-line SEL sedan and SES hatchback models in two color combinations. The Race Red package combined red and black leather-trimmed seating and door panels with red steering wheel and instrument panel trim. The Arctic White package mixes the classic tuxedo black and white color scheme. Also new for 2012 was a premium sport appearance package that features several blacked-out accents and 16-inch polished alloy wheels.
The 2012 Ford Fiesta was available as a 4-door sedan or 5-door hatchback. Four trim levels were also available: the base S, SE, SEL, and SES. The S and SEL were only available as a sedan, while the SES came as a hatchback only. All 2012 Fiestas are powered by a 1.6 liter inline 4 cylinder engine that produces 120 horsepower and 112 lb.-ft. of torque. A five-speed manual transmission was standard and a six-speed automatic was available as an option. The automatic is really an automated dual-clutch manual transmission that changes gear faster than a torque converter-based automatic. The Ford Fiesta with manual transmission goes from zero to 60 in 9.5 seconds. Ford estimates the Fiesta's fuel economy at 30 mpg city/40 mpg highway for the automatic transmission and 29 mpg city/38 mpg highway for the manual.
The entry-level S sedan comes with 15-inch steel wheels, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, capless fuel filler, power mirrors, 4-speaker AM/FM stereo with USB and auxiliary input jack, and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The SE sedan adds a CD player, as well as metallic cabin accents, power windows, and power door locks. The SEL sedan also includes a rear spoiler, LED parking lights, 16-inch premium painted wheels, a 6-speaker premium sound system with XM satellite radio, ambient lighting, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and the Sync multimedia voice-command system with turn-by-turn navigation. The SE hatchback adds a rear spoiler and wiper to the sedan's features, while the SES hatchback adds a rear wiper to the features of the SEL sedan. Some packages also boast upper trim features to lower trims and optional features to upper trim levels, including keyless entry/ignition and heated leather seating. A Super Fuel Economy package utilizes aerodynamic tweaks, lightweight wheels, and special tires to optimize fuel mileage. Other options include 17-inch alloy wheels, sunroof and special paint colors.
Standard safety features include stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes with electronic brake force distribution, front-seat side airbags, driver and passenger side curtain airbags, driver knee airbag, stability and traction control, child seat anchors, front seatbelt pre-tensioners, turn signal mirrors, and tire pressure monitoring. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Fiesta four out of five stars in the new, more stringent crash tests, with four stars for overall frontal crash protection and five stars for overall side crash protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Fiesta sedan a top rating of "Good" for frontal-offset and side-impact collisions. In Edmunds brake testing, the Fiesta stopped from 60 mph in 119 feet.
